These officers, often starting as Lieutenants and rising to Captains or higher, serve primarily in Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) caring for soldiers, their families, and civilians.

The training aims to prepare young women as military officers who have nursing skills needed to serve in the Pakistan Army. Trainees usually complete 3–4 years of training to earn a BSc Nursing degree at Combined Military Hospitals CMHs or undergo 6 weeks of specialized training if they are experienced nurses at AFPGMI Rawalpindi or CMH Kharian.

Early Morning Discipline (05:00 AM – 07:30 AM)

Early morning discipline from 05:00 AM to 07:30 AM involves setting a consistent routine that helps start the day with focus and intention. Waking up at this time allows for quiet hours that can be used for planning, exercise, or meditation, setting a calm tone for the hours ahead. This period encourages habits that promote productivity and a balanced mind before the usual daily distractions begin.

Wake Up Call: The day starts early, often before sunrise, to instill military discipline. The wake-up call reminds trainees that discipline is at the heart of everything they do.

Physical Training PT focuses on developing and maintaining physical fitness, which is an essential component of overall training. The morning begins with physical exercise, which includes drills, running, or other fitness routines. This helps the trainees build physical endurance, which is crucial for their overall well-being and readiness as future military officers.

After physical training, trainees make sure they are dressed in their crisp AFNS uniforms, either white or clinical, for the day. Uniform inspection plays a role in making sure trainees meet strict grooming and cleanliness standards that reflect military professionalism.

After getting ready, they usually have breakfast in the hostel mess with fellow trainees. This meal is important to fuel them for the long day ahead, and it’s often a time for bonding and socializing.

Clinical and Academic Training (08:00 AM – 02:00 PM)

Trainees complete Ward Duties as part of their clinical experience by working in various departments at the Combined Military Hospitals CMH, providing practical exposure to different medical cases. They rotate through critical areas such as the Intensive Care Unit ICU, Operation Theater OT, and medical or surgical wards. This real-world experience is where trainees start to learn the intricacies of patient care under supervision.

Nursing Care involves trainees working under the supervision of senior nurses and officers. They monitor patient vitals, administer medications, prepare patient records, and assist with various medical procedures. This helps them develop their clinical skills and prepares them for working in high-pressure environments.

Classes and lectures are part of the training process, with trainees attending academic sessions at the AFNS school of nursing alongside their clinical hours. These lectures cover essential nursing subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, and others. The academic training provides a clear understanding of the scientific foundation behind the hands-on nursing care they provide.

Afternoon Routine (02:00 PM – 05:00 PM)

Trainees take a short break for lunch and Namaz. This time provides an opportunity to relax, refresh, and maintain the balance between physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Clinical Report: Trainees hand over their duties to the next shift. This involves discussing patient cases, updating medical charts, and ensuring a smooth transition of care. This practice helps instill professionalism and communication skills that are crucial for military healthcare settings.

After clinical duties, trainees have some free time for hostel or study time, during which they can focus on self-study, complete assignments, and prepare for upcoming nursing examinations. This study time helps reinforce what students have learned in the clinical setting and ensures they are well-prepared for their academic and practical evaluations.

Evening and Evening Discipline (05:00 PM – 09:00 PM)

Trainees take part in evening drill or sports to maintain physical fitness and mental alertness. These activities help them reduce stress, build teamwork, and make sure they are ready for any situation in a military setting.

Tea Break: A short pause to relax with tea, giving trainees time to recharge and connect with their fellow nurses. This informal time also fosters camaraderie among the trainees.

Trainees eat dinner together in the hostel mess with their fellow trainees. This is another opportunity for bonding and relaxation before the busy day comes to an end.

Night Routine (09:00 PM – 05:00 AM)

People commonly spend the evening studying, reviewing clinical experiences, and preparing for the next day’s duties. Trainees review patient cases, update their nursing knowledge, and get ready for the challenges they will face in the upcoming shifts. This is an essential part of their training as they prepare for exams and ensure they are improving in both academic and clinical skills.

They enforce a strict lights out policy to ensure trainees get enough rest. Proper sleep is crucial for physical and mental recovery, especially considering the demanding schedule. The lights-out policy helps create discipline and gets the trainees ready for an early start the next day.
