1. Prepositions
A preposition shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun with other words in a sentence.
Examples: in, on, at, by, with, from, to, into, under, over, between, among, for, since, of, about
Common Prepositions

2. Important Preposition Rules
Rule 1: At, On, In for Time
At = exact time
He came at 7 o’clock.
On = day/date
He came on Monday.
In = month/year/season
He came in January.
He was born in 2001.
Rule 2: Since and For
Since is used for a starting point of time.
Example: since morning, since 2020, since Monday
For is used for a duration/period of time.
Example: for two hours, for five years, for many days
Rule 3: Between and Among
Between is used for two persons/things.
The match is between Pakistan and India.
Among is used for more than two persons/things.
The sweets were distributed among the students.
Rule 4: Into and In
In means inside.
He is in the room.
Into shows movement from outside to inside.
He went into the room.
Rule 5: On and Over
On means touching the surface.
The book is on the table.
Over means above, usually not touching.
The fan is over my head.
3. Articles
Articles are used before nouns.
There are three articles:
A, An, The
Article “A”
Use a before a singular countable noun with a consonant sound.
Examples:
a boy
a book
a university
a European country
Note: university starts with vowel letter “u” but its sound is “you”, so we use a university.
Article “An”
Use an before a singular countable noun with a vowel sound.
Examples:
an apple
an egg
an honest man
an hour
Note: honest and hour start with silent “h”, so we use an.
Article “The”
Use the for a specific person, place, or thing.
Examples:
The book on the table is mine.
The sun rises in the east.
The Holy Quran is a sacred book.
